❶「七宝網紋両面型染暖簾」
暖簾としての機能は、掛ける場所によって様々に変化します。
ここでは表裏なくどちら側からも見えるよう、両面同位置に型糊を置いてから染めています。
縁起の良い網によって、包む側と包まれる側が存在しています。

The function of a noren changes depending on where it is hung. In this case, the design is dyed after applying a resist paste in the same position on both sides, so that it can be seen clearly from either side.
The auspicious net pattern represents both the one who envelops and the one who is enveloped.

❷大麻緞通段染垂幕 円環
大麻の縄は最も美しい縄です。毛羽立ちがなく艶があり、引き締まった縄のボディからは、人々の丹精込めた技から滲み出る愛情を感じます。
その大麻が縄になる前、植物から繊維になったばかりの“精麻”の状態で、絨毯のように結び、先端のみをグラデーションで染めています。
古来からさまざまな印象を与えてきた特殊な植物である大麻には、存在そのものに圧倒されます。

Taima Dantsū Danzome Taremaku Enkan
Hemp rope is the most beautiful of all ropes.
It has no fuzz, a natural luster, and a firm, compact body that radiates the deep care and craftsmanship poured into its making.
Before it becomes rope, hemp exists in the state of seima—freshly processed fibers from the plant. In this work, the seimais knotted like a carpet, and only the ends are dyed in a soft gradient.
As a plant long associated with spiritual and cultural symbolism, hemp has an overwhelming presence in and of itself.

❸乱麻縄紋五戒段型染軸
乱麻とは、乱れてもつれた麻の糸のこと。五戒とは、仏教徒が守るべき五箇条の教えです。
藍だけで活動していると、「守る」ことと「〜してはいけない」ことの違いは理解できますが、“なぜ”を理解するまでの「〜してはいけない」ことの苦しさもよく分かります。一つのパターンを、染め、乾燥、糊置きを5回繰り返しています。

Ranma Jōmon Gokai Dankatazome-jiku
"Ranma" refers to tangled and disordered hemp threads.
The Five Precepts are the five ethical principles that Buddhists are expected to uphold.
Working solely with indigo, I’ve come to understand the difference between “protecting” something and simply being told “not to do” something.
At the same time, I also deeply understand the struggle of following a rule without yet knowing why it exists.
This piece repeats a single pattern through a five-step cycle of dyeing, drying, and resist-pasting.

❹藍畳／菱形縄紋型染縁（畳縁）
イ草は本来水を弾き、藍の色素が定着しません。なんとか定着させるために、織り込む前のイ草をヤスリで削ってから染めています。これなら、多少のお粗相は許されるかもしれません。
畳縁には庶民的な素材である苧麻を使用しています。菱形紋様は、イ草と同じく水が大好きな植物であるヒシに由来し、旺盛な繁殖力から子孫繁栄の意味を持ちます。

Ai-Tatami | Hishigata Jōmon Katazome-fuchi
Rush grass (igusa) naturally repels water, making it difficult for indigo dye to adhere.
To overcome this, the igusa is sanded before weaving in order to allow the pigment to fix.
With this extra effort, perhaps even a little mishap can be forgiven.
For the tatami edging, we use choma (ramie), a humble and traditional material.
The diamond-shaped pattern originates from the hishi (water caltrop), a plant that—like igusa—thrives in water.
Due to its vigorous growth, the hishi motif symbolizes fertility and the prosperity of future generations.
